Trails are very sensitive right now, snowshoes is the only option if you’re planning to go out for a hike. We used snowshoes door to door and still were having trouble with flotation as the warm temps and rain have really softened things up. However with snowshoes we were able to summit without sinking more than 4 inches at most with only a couple deeper postholes, we commented how we had no idea how we would have reached the summit without snowshoes, we would have completely destroyed the trail.
Imagine our surprise when 2 miles into our descent we ran into some massive postholes, we were confused as we knew we had never sunk even close to that deep. That’s when we realized that someone had tried to come up after us and barebooted the whole thing. When I say postholes I mean POSTHOLES. Almost every single step this person took they sank minimum shin deep and in some spots easily knee deep. The trail is COMPLETELY destroyed. This added at least 20 mins to our climb down as trying to navigate the trail and not break an ankle in any of the gigantic postholes became a huge chore. In my opinion this trail is now ruined for the rest of winter and will be very unsafe if it freezes back up, there will be no coming back from the damage this one person has done to this trail. Do not be this stupid, at minimum carry your snowshoes. |
