Lots of snow off-trail even at the trailhead. Below Mount Avalon, post holes from bare-booting and even from some snowshoes that were slightly off the edge of trail in tight sections. 38 degrees at trailhead when I finished early in afternoon - softening up down below and lots of folks coming up without snowshoes.
Trails were well consolidated from Tom over to Field and then Willey. The Willey Range trail (in parts) had drifted over during the night and also with a couple inches of fresh snow. Potential Spruce trap potential from Field over to Willey. Very tight and winding trail in sections right beside tops of spruce poking out of the snow right beside trail. These peaks are all in evergreen growth. Estimated snow depth near peak could be at a minimum five to six feet deep. |
