Not much has changed since Ibex's excellent report from 2/22. It's Dr. Seuss land up there, but thanks to a group that I believe went out on Saturday, there is a followable trough. There was some additional drifting due to the falling snow and zesty wind, which made it difficult to find the trough going into the trees up to Bondcliff, but everywhere else it was fairly straightforward. As Ibex reported, the saddle before West Bond is a puzzle. Pick a lane and trust that it will take you through. The Hillary Step is an impressive incline plane - I actually went backwards descending, felt safer that way. Only people I saw all day were two skiers descending the steep stair section on Bondcliff Trail. However, there were some bare booters who had torn up the lower section of Bondcliff Trail all the way out to the wilderness boundary. Snowshoes only right now, please :( |
