Comments
Comments: Beautiful bluebird day on Monadnock with a wide variety of winter conditions. White dot/cross are in typical superhighway condition, although definitely loosening up in the sun. Cascade link and red spot are in rough shape. Crusty in the morning but loosening up by mid day. Lots of postholes, some into waist deep drifts. I did my best to even it out with snowshoes, but it will take a few more passes and some melting before it's in good condition. Alternatively, a few barebooters could absolutely destroy this trail during the upcoming warm weather. White arrow is mostly in good condition, but the initial descent from the summit is tricky, steep, and slick from butt sliding, plus a few icy areas emerging on the steeper sections in the trees. Took amphitheater and smith connecting to loop back to White Cross, I was only the second set of snowshoes prints on this trail. Strongly recommend others do not attempt this trail without snowshoes. There are pockets of DEEP unpacked snow on the mountain still but that will likely change quickly. Very little ice to speak of.
