This was a quick loop that I chose because I knew the parking area would be plowed. Trails have a well-packed snowshoe track. It's probably possible to just use spikes, but snowshoes would provide much more traction to prevent slipping and sliding, and also prevent postholing off the side of the trail (which I saw plenty of evidence of). I used snowshoes the whole way and was happy with that. Views were excellent from the outlooks.
After the hike, I checked the Reed Road and East Gilford trailheads to see if the parking areas were plowed and accessible. They were not. |
