Comments: Snowshoes the whole way. This was my first time on this one in winter, and it was a great choice! There is a drifted-over snowshoe track with a soft base on the Sugarloaf Trail. We were the only ones out there today and we packed it down but it’s not firm. You will definitely want to do this in snowshoes. The ladder was challenging. I went up in snowshoes but could see that others had removed them and kicked in the steps, which is a good choice too. An ornery spruce grouse nearly became a rotisserie chicken because it was nested under/in the snow about 6” from the trail. It scared the bleepers out of me. LOL.
There are no signs of recent travel to North Sugarloaf.
Zealand Road has a nice snowshoe/ski track with minimal postholes.
We saw lots of snowshoers headed to Hale, skiers headed to the Zealand Hut, and an endless number of people on snowmobiles. Everyone was out enjoying a beautiful day! It’s about time we scored a nice weekend!!
