Comments
Comments: Broke trail the whole way up to Hale, was anywhere from a few inches to a couple of feet. In short sections there were remnants of another snowshoer likely a few days earlier but after the recent snow dumps. Current soft powder on top of an intermittent more crusty underlayer but possible to punch through feet of snow even with snowshoes. Extremely hazardous without snowshoes. Depending on wind directions, we did have to break trail back as well in some short areas where the loose snow was already pushed around again. Plenty of spruce traps within 3/4 mile of the summit. Near the summit snow laden trees make the trail almost of a crawl to pass through. Haystack road firm packed from snowmobiles.
