Comments
Comments: It was wicked windy today in Sanbornton. I was in the area and wanted to check out this NH500 peak with a great view. I did not expect the extra 1.8 miles of road walk each way, but it was a lovely groomed snowmobile trail (an old discontinued section of Mountain Road, running between Carter Mountain Road in New Hampton and Old Brown Road in Sanbornton) to walk on starting maybe 200 feet from the parking lot. The first section was just 2 wide ruts (from the groomer I guess), then there was a nice sidewalk section that the snowmobiles saved for me. The rolling hills made for a pleasant stroll, then I finally came to the unmarked trail (shown on Gaia) that one person had snowshoed up. The track had refrozen into hard lumps, and my snowshoe broke about 10 steps in, so I decided to just bare boot it and I left a mess of knee deep post-holes. That is not usually how I roll, but the trail is only a mile long, and perhaps when the conditions are different someone can fix the mess. The view at the top is grand, but for me the road walk was more enjoyable than the hike.
