Comments
Comments: Trail is well-packed from Highland Center RR tracks to A-Z trail junction. Snowshoes recommended as snow is powdery soft. Partway up to Avalon, trail stopped being broken out. We broke it out to Avalon. Snow was knee-deep and unconsolidated--challenging to make progress on steep sections. Had planned to do Field, but trail was not broken above Avalon junction, so went back to A-Z junction and headed to Tom. Broken out all the way to Tom, but snowshoes definitely necessary. Blowdowns on Tom Spur required duck-under. We left packs at junction and slack-packed to summit. A-Z trail/Willey Range Trail not broken out toward Field.
Gorgeous day--cobalt skies, no wind. 15 degrees once warmed up from -2. Stellar!
