Comments
Comments: Snowshoes starting at the snowplow mound and back to that same spot.

There was a soft snowshoe track starting at the trailhead that only lasted 1/4 mile and it appeared the person turned around. From that point there was a single set of bootprints from the day before that mostly rototilled the trail. While there were some windswept firm spots here and there and where the skiers come through higher up, there was a lot of soft stuff and/or drifting that did not support boots/spikes. I post-holed in my snowshoes in some spots.

I turned back out of treeline midway to the Rim Trail junction due to losing the trail (and I’ve been on this trail over a dozen times). Skiers had smoothed out any trough above treeline then winds and drifting obscured the track. Snow covered blazes on the boulders. It was a mix of unconsolidated soft stuff and windswept firm spots out of treeline.

On the way down I encountered two booters who were rototilling and churning the trail. FYI for anyone headed there tomorrow.

The trail is far from being packed in most areas so snowshoes are best tool right now.
