Comments
Comments: A bluebird day for Welch-Dickey! Trail going up Welch side well-packed interspersed with some chewy sections and postholes. Not terrible. Upon reaching Welch ledges, tracks more even. Snowshoe track abruptly stopped after the Welch ledges just before the steep slabs. Could make out old snowshoe prints, but largely filled in by snowdrifts. From that point up to the summit of Welch and over to Dickey, any signs of tracks were obliterated by the wind. It helps to be familiar with the trail or hike with someone who is. Blazes helped, but they aren't super close to each other. There are a couple steep sections that are a good scramble in the snowless months made more difficult with a lot of snow and wearing snowshoes that couldn't gain purchase. Multiple parties were on the trail today. Hopefully, the trail will be packed down going up to Welch and over to Dickey, but beware that blowing winds can fill the tracks in. After Dickey, there were ski tracks all along the descent going in every direction especially the open slabs. Once off Dickey Ledges, it was just ski tracks descending, which didn't pack down the snow much. Should be much better packed out by the end of today. Happy Trails!
