Comments
Comments: Started around 7 AM with four of us in snow shoes prepared for a challenge. There was a well established snowshoe trench for the first several miles with 3-4 inches on new snow on top. When we got about 1.5 miles from North twin Summit the trail was much less visible and we were navigating very deep snow with snow covered branches and trees galore. Much of the same continued between north and south twin with heavy drifting and no visible trail in some places. We took turns all day leading the pack because the amount of snow is making it very exhausting. After heading down south twin it was apparent that nobody had been in the section for a while. We were basically sliding down in knee deep or waist deep snow and praying for the best while holding onto trees and hoping they didn’t dump a bucket of snow on our head. Once we got to the Galehead hut we saw no tracks anywhere. We forged our way up to the Gailhead Summit breaking trail the whole way, and struggling to find the actual summit due to the snow depth and leaning snow covered trees. We headed down Gale River Trail, which unfortunately had more unconsolidated snow than north twin Trail. This was an exhausting trek down and there were several bum touches and maybe one drive off a bog bridge. Angela and I gridded these peaks for Feb and Brian gridded for his G2 that he is in denial about. Thanks to Mike for enduring this day with us and helping to complete the mission. Much of this information will be useless after the incoming snow, but we did break out the trail for 12 hours.
