Not gonna bother getting into specifics about the trail, because it will be moot in about 4 hours.

All I will say is that today was a combo slap in the face/kick in the junk. If you know me IRL, you know my feelings on snowshoe usage. I, OF ALL PEOPLE, consciously made a decision to leave my snowshoes in the truck. That went about as well as you can imagine. I was basically hiking in sand the entire day.

I can’t thank enough the couple I caught up to on my way up who decided to don snowshoes when they did, because you gave me 3/4 of a mile of trail bliss on the way down.

It was very eye-opening to see how the lack of a true thaw/freeze cycle this winter has set up the trails. The snow is still super dry and unconsolidated. After tonight’s storm, for the foreseeable future until we get a real thaw/freeze, it feels like snowshoes are going to be the only way to go. Unless you want to exert twice as much energy as you should (like I did today).   |
