Comments
Comments: Set off hoping to make the ridge with such a late start. Section up to ~3000' was well packed and traveled. Deja vu experience from 3 weeks ago on 3rd mile. Could detect the route vaguely but needed to break again thanks to drifts and fresh snow. Blowdowns and breaking were very fatiguing, if not quite as difficult as a few weeks ago. Teen temperatures and wind meant ascending with all layers. Happy to make the junction by South Summit; happy to turn around there. Great to see large group of 7 or 8 later on in their snow shoes. This helped maintain the old fashioned winter sidewalk (once the norm) before microspikes started making the scene. Nearly stepped on a spruce grouse who shot out of her snowy burrow.
