Gosh when I first did this peak I didn't follow the yellow blazed Weasel Trail. But what made this more wonderful was someone had snowmobiled a couple of snowstorms ago all the way to near the height of the land of the where there are the remains of experimental experiment trash equipment. I xc skied all the way to the end of Flume Road. I changed into my snowshoes and left my skis behind.
I couldn't believe my luck that someone continued on their snowmobile up the steep Weasel Trail, must have been a wild ride. The track had at least ten inches of loose powder on top and the track really wasn't consolidated but helped greatly to float. From here I went west and snowshoeing was a lot slower and more work. I sunk anywhere between 9 inches to my knees. I crossed one new set of moose tracks and only tracks I saw all day. I stayed in the open but stomped on some hobblebush on my way to the canister hidden in the spruce. Chilly gusty wind but the sun was mostly out. Lots of junk left in the woods but what amused me was the sound of the tin tags nailed to the trees making a jingle noise. That was new to me.
Loved skiing back! Cold powder snow isn't fast but it was soft fun. This route round trip was just 8 miles. There was no new snowmobile tracks anywhere today. |
