 | Comments: |
The Mount Kinsman Trail to the Bald Peak junction has been heavily traveled and there is only a need for spikes. From there to the Kinsman Ridge Trail had about 1" drifted snow covering previous tracks but traction was good. The KRT was well packed by snowshoes and I kept the spikes on over North until halfway to South Kinsman. Switched to snowshoes which made the steeps much easier as despite the flatness created by snowshoe traffic, there was more snow in the trail and it was loose and unconsolidated. On the way back, I stayed in snowshoes until Bald Peak so the trail between KRT and there is smoothed out more. Switching back to spikes made the last 2 miles back to the car a quick hike. |
