Comments
Comments: Excellent conditions today all around. Lincoln woods is the usual packed highway with sets of ski tracks on the edges. Both the trail to Black pond and the bushwhack beyond it were well defined and packed solid. At Lincoln Brook there was about 1-2" of fresh snow on top of a solid base. Spikes did just fine here. All water crossings were bridged and stable which made for a quick walk to the base of Brutus. Brutus was also well defined and easy to follow with a few inches of new snow. No ice here but the steeps were a bit slick with the smooth packed snow. At higher elevation the base had drifted over a bit but it was still nice and solid just underneath. The final half mile to the actual summit was in surprisingly good shape with no postholes or major blowdowns. The descent was a breeze with hillsounds. No snowshoes today. Trails are great right now, get it while you can
