 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Wide open at Mead Base. Saw one other person walking their dog but I appeared to be the sole hiker on the mountain today. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The main brook crossing has a solid ice bridge but you can also hear water flowing beneath. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No blowdowns. Looks like blazes have been repainted since I was last here. The relocations that were done recently are in the form of gentle switchbacks higher up on the mountain but below the lower viewpoint (which is becoming pretty restricted). |

 | Comments: |
Another strange winter continues ...
Snow depths were a few inches at most and I went with spikes round-trip. Some hardcore snowshoers may want them because the snow that is present is soft, but it's also thin and still exposing a lot of rocks and roots. There was some deeper drifting between the two summits but it's not worth carrying the shoes for that short section. This area really needs another good dumping for ideal snowshoe conditions.
Overcast views from the summit but the sun was coming out as I was headed down. |
