Comments
Comments: As always, this hike is challenging, mostly due to milage & the multiple ups and downs of traversing 4 peaks, but beautiful. Many thanks to the young couple who broke out the trail from the hut to Zealand the day before. We (4 older women, 3 of whom are Team Medicare) consolidated the trail to Zealand and broke out the trail to W Bond. We met another Gridder who was doing and out&back from LW, so were spared that trail breaking. Lots of drifts in the woods but mostly boney on the ridges. Zealand Rd was well packed out until Hale Brook TH. I bare-booted to the Zealand TH but could have used snowshoes as the snow was softer beyond Hale Brook. Switched to snowshoes for the hike into Zealand hut and spent the night. Snowshoes from the hut to midway between Bond and Bondcliff (as it was bony) then back to snowshoes after dropping down into the woods after Bondcliff. Snowshoes for about 3 miles then back to spikes for the rest for the way. From what we could see, Lend-a-hand has seen recent use but the packed trail had some light snow covering.
