Trimmed some branches from leaners on Manning
Older Hillsound trail crampons car to car. Newer Hillsounds in pack.Left rock spikes in car. Hard ice flows above 2nd intersection with Allieway ski trail. Trail packed with traces of recent snow. Followed tracks to about Dukes Ski Trail. Appears hiker either couldn't find trail as prints just stopped or turned around for other reason. Wind blown snow with occasions drifts to about knee deep. Previous hiker(s) turned left off trail just before "frog" rock below Dukes. Brushed this in with what was readily available. Albeit there are nice views on that ledge, not a great place to get off trail and spend time banging around. Above Dukes on Manning and Mowglis, trail is very easy to lose on wind blown ledges going in and out of trees. Good to have been there before to have some idea what to expect. Nonetheless, did get off trail a few times but not far enough to be an issue. Clark trail from Cardigan to Wardens cabin also hard to follow on mostly wind blown ledges without any visible blazes and no cairns. Laid down fresh tracks on upper section of Manning, Mowglis, Clark and cutoff. Saw no other hikers on trail. Did see a group of 5 in the lodge visitor parking lot on return heading up to High Cabin for 2 nights. 13 degrees to start with with low winds. |
