Fabulous day with great conditions. Minimal to no wind. Just a light dusting of snow, but ice lying underneath it spoke for micro spikes. We Donned them after the first crossing when one of us slipped on the ice, and left them on until returning to the same spot. There were essential on the Ridge Trail, especially after the junction of Marge‘s Trail on ascent where some ice floes across ledgy spots became tricky.
Saw three or four other parties on the Ridge trail, and lots of traffic on Rowe. Couldn’t get clarification on Gunstock’s policy for using this trail. A literal reading of the posted uphill policy would suggest we cannot use this trail if the resort is selling Nordic passes and snowshoe tours. Since the ridge trail was closed to those uses today, our trek seemed like it wasn’t going to bother anyone or any trail grooming.
Such lovely views of adjacent lakes through the trees this time of year. |
