 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lots of parking at Cardigan Lodge early afternoon though cars were starting to fill the second major lot. Shem Valley Rd was a bit icy - glad to have 4WD but you would probably be OK with 2WD |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Both big crossings of Clark Brook were solidly ice-bridged - basically could cross anywhere |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Couple blowdowns along the way - see the previous poster's report about this. Finally, the most significant one was between the falls and Welton Falls Rd (it's been there for well over a year now) |

Thank you Pancks and Tesco Heaney for the recent trip report - I forget how nice this area is!!!! At first was thinking we needed snowshoes but then once beyond the ski trail/campground, the spikes were fine. Amazing colorful ice bulges and floes along Clark Brook, as expected. Keyhole of the falls was completely filled with a bulging icefall which was super-pretty. Looking into the giant pothole above the falls had super cool ice. We went from lodge to Welton Falls Rd and returned (about 3 miles RT). NOTE: there were some old tracks on Welton Falls Rd but it isn't maintained for driving in winter. |
