Six people on trail this morning, three in spikes and three in snowshoes. Snowshoes are not needed until the loop junction then it's your call. Went up South Hancock from the split, smooth conditions on a snowshoe packed/butt sled luge with an inch or two of fresh snow on top. Along the ridge heading from south to north; the first half was a little soft in spots under the new snow but packed enough that I didn't posthole, second half was well packed. Heading down north back to loop junction started off as a smooth snowshoe track but quickly turned into snow steps for the majority, as most prefer ascending this direction and kicking in steps through the steeps, still it was very easy going.
Beautiful and quiet morning on the trails as snow lightly fell throughout the hike. Not a hint of wind after a week of hell up here! |
