Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking lot at the AMC Cardigan Lodge is plowed and was wide open late afternoon -- only other cars/trucks were a couple of staff vehicles. Shem Valley Road is in good shape.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Bareboot Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None were an issue -- but do note that the ice bridge across Clark Brook has some "phyllo" ice in spots -- thin flaky layers with air in between, making for some instability. Choose your path wisely.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Three medium-sized blowdowns of note -- one duck-under and one partially buried stepover right where the trail descends east, past the 93Z Ski Trail intersection, and the third, a walk-around, about 0.25 miles past that.

Comments
Comments: Very cold and windy/blustery conditions, but perfect for a quick trek to the falls. The frozen falls themselves were dwarfed by large melt/run-off ice formations along the high ledge above Clark Brook. Worth a look.

Light traction is all that is needed -- trail is mainly uneven styrofoam crust with a very light dusting of powder, occasionally punctuated by occasional flash-frozen blue ice sculptures and one or two short open, frozen leafy sections.

In other words, fast-moving conditions, especially for staying warm!

As usual this time of year and that time of day, we had the trail to ourselves.
