Gorgeous ice formations along the river.
It was my first time up Tremont. The first mile of river valley was pleasant walking. The second mile was a quad workout up through a beautiful and interesting forest where the trail seemed to be partially reclaimed by a mostly frozen brook. The final approach of switchbacks was humbling and overly steep due to the snow being a hard packed ramp. The corners on those switchbacks are Yeti-sized. The view out the other way once you get to the summit was truly great, looking down on Sawyer Pond and also seeing many summits in an almost 180 panorama. I wanted to stay there a long while but there wasn't time and it was 15 degrees today. |
