Comments
Comments: Trail was fairly well-packed down, with a loose layer of drifty unconsolidated powder on top. Basically, choose your own traction. I would anticipate that there will be more drifting overnight with the wind.

I bare-booted to the steeps, then put snowshoes on, which I thought were the most efficient traction option given the snow conditions. Only saw a handful of other hikers today, but most were not wearing snowshoes and seemed to be doing fine although there were signs of struggle on the steeps. There is also quite a bit of ice beneath the snow that I did not notice as I ascended in snowshoes, but bare/spiked booters had revealed as they spun their wheels on the way up. Track was firm enough that postholing and rototilling didn't seem to be an issue without snowshoes unless stepping off the beaten track.

On the way down I switched to spikes at the bottom of the steeps for the way out. Overall surprisingly decent trail conditions and a good choice for a brisk and breezy day.
