 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Ravine Lodge Rd. is mostly plowed but has a very thin layer of densely packed snow, so AWD is recommended if you want to park at the lot 0.7 mi up the road just before the closed gate. From there you can either walk up the rest of the road, or use the "winter bypass" a.k.a. Put's Path. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The big ones have footbridges with railings. One small stream can be jumped over in one leap (easy). |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Excellent condition - all blowdowns have been cleared. About halfway up there was a spot with two rigid small branches jutting vertically 6 inches out of the ground - no more than an inch in diameter, but they are easy to trip on. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |

 | Comments: |
We used microspikes the whole way (snowshoes came for the ride) - conditions are essentially perfect for spikes right now. Higher up, just off the trail the powdery snow is a few feet deep, but the trail itself is pretty well packed with at most a few inches of loose powder on top. The brief above-treeline section at the summit is more ice than snow in places, but it's not steep at all, so crampons would have been overkill. |
