Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: the big one was scary due to water levels. I had a helping hand the first time crossing. opted to bw upstream and used the log to hold on to for the second.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: yeah, there are a few to duck under or step over. a big saw could handle most of them. there are some stubs that are frozen in the trail that could catch a snowshoe or traction.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: plenty of running water out there right now. conditions are mostly fine for dog feet.
Bugs
Bugs: with the warm temps, saw a few gnatty looking things flying around.

Comments
Comments: mixed bag spring conditions was the name of the game today. barefooted first 2 miles. gambled that snowshoes wouldn't be needed and dropped them in the woods. gamble paid off. spikes went on and stayed on to the summit and back down to where I left the shoes. summit bare rock. slippery slush on the way down, actually used the shoes here for a bit to help with the sliding. as noted above, the biggest water crossing was scary for me. if my legs were 1" longer and I had more confidence.... this trail needs 12+ inches of snow and cold temps to improve conditions.
