I'd recommend avoiding higher-elevation, northern-exposed, and/or steeper portions of the Belknaps during this thaw due to the potential of damaging the trails.
This route didn't have much snow to begin with (prior to the most recent snowfall), so it's mostly melted at this point. The largest stretch of ice is on the Mt. Rowe Trail before the first Weeks junction. It's a few dozen feet long, but fairly flat, so it can be barebooted with caution. Otherwise, only a handful of tiny patches of ice remain. That said, portions of the trail are mucky because the ground frost is collapsing. Generally speaking though, this route isn't too bad right now.
After the rain and fog pulled away, it was a partly sunny afternoon with temperatures in the low 50s. Though the natural snow is mostly gone down here (snowpack still remains on the ground just a few miles north of here), there was still plenty of manmade snow visible on the Gunstock slopes. |
