We started early in the morning and were two of five cars in the lot. We passed a trio of people who ended up turning around. The trail was snowy right from the parking lot, well packed out to the bushwhacks, and still firm when we went up earlier in the morning. The bushwhacks were deeply post holed, falling apart in spots, missing large sections, and generally rough. It was very slow going here. We saw two large piles of moose poop, and the moose‘s bed, and met up with a man on trail who had seen the moose about 15 feet from himself, so just be aware, especially if you have dogs. The engine hill bushwhack was mostly solid, but at the very bottom of it entire sections and bridges of ice were missing, we punched through the crust several times, and there was a good 2 inches of standing water at the bottom of the hill. This will probably be flooded in the next day as reports have said that we could get as much as 2 inches of rain, and the snow pack has already started to melt, and will add significantly to this flooding. The iso express was pretty much the same, firm-ish, although I punched through several times, and it was kind of a post hole mess. I also can’t remember ever having gone this way before? It seemed a little meandering and I suspect added a mile or two to the bushwhack. The water crossing, if it was bridged before, is no longer. We broke through much of the ice with our poles in a couple spots, it was also audibly rushing, and I would think it would be insane in the next couple of days after the rains. We wore spikes up, but I needed to wear snow shoes down as the conditions were deteriorating around us and I’m like the only person alive who finds snowshoes easier than spikes lol. By the time we had left everything looked like mid April, very wet and slushy. Good luck out there kids. pictures on Insta under elizacal
