Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All iced/snowed over or easy rock hops. No problem getting across any but rain and warm temps coming in the next few days may change this.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: More of the same with blowdowns but not nearly as bad as some other trails have been seeing. One of our crew used her saw on a bunch improving the way for all.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We had three pups join us on the Lincoln woods section, what a blast they were having.
Bugs
Bugs: We spotted one mosquito looking thing on the way out. Strange. The amount of snow fleas was insane. On the way up to Bond, the snow was just covered with them!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found, 4 more for December grid Lost, sanity for a few moments

Comments
Comments: Forecast looked decent for a bunch of us to tackle this super long day. Most of the crew stayed at the zealand hut day night and reported a comfortable enough stay. Two of us hiked in very early in the morning to catch up with them. We were able to bare boot the whole way until the hut thanks to 18 degree starting temperatures in the dark. After the hut, snowshoes really were the only option . There’s a lot of snow up there. Most of the trail signs have been lowered a couple feet. Nice snowshoes track laid all the way to Zealand for us. My husband had his snowshoe fail near the summit and decided to turn back knowing it would be terrible to continue to the Bonds. He and a friend hiked back down to the hut and route 302. They said they ran into a group only using spikes near Zealcliff junction. The trail was a mess of postholes that they tried to smooth out ( even with a busted snowshoe) . The rest of us had good snowshoeing conditions all the way to Bondcliff where it got mostly rocky and we took them off for that part. They went back on for the descent down Bondcliff trail until the flatter section out. Bareboots were fine for the long death march out. I know rain is coming but there is a lot of snow up high and figured I would share that. Thanks to those who hiked these peaks the days before us busting it out. A long , challenging day but made better with a solid crew.
