 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
One of the few lots I could get into today. I tried Drakes Brook/Sandwich Mtn Trailhead and got up to a spot but felt like someone would crash into my parked car so I went for Smarts Brook instead. |

I guess I hadn't been up this trail in a long time as I had forgotten different parts of it. I barebooted well past the Wilderness Boundary and never felt like I was going to slip. There were a few inches of fresh snow. Around 2600', above the last significant brook crossing where the trail steepens, the snow got deeper. At that point I put on the tiny snowshoes and kept them on to the ridge. Met the person in front of me who got almost to the ridge before returning. Thankfully he broke out the trail much of the way with snowshoes. At the ridge/junction with Sandwich Mountain Trail, I kinda reached my turnaround time... I would have gone to Jennings Peak if it had been broken out; I took a quick look at the ridge with untouched snow and random blowdowns, realized I couldn't easily identify the trail, and I decided I was good. Down was much faster. Beautiful woods!!! Lots of open water spots with mud here and there. |
