If you like blowdowns, have I got a trail for you! Yesterday’s report held very close to true, with the only change being some light, fluffy snow that fell overnight. This snow put some more grip on the ledges, so sharp spikes definitely are not needed today. Your average spikes would do it. Up above 3,400’, the blowdown carnage is extensive. Most aren’t hard tog get around, but because of all the downed branches and such, it’s impossible to use snowshoes [inaccurate] through it and thus it’s a postholed wasteland. You will posthole if you hike this. You will need to duck under and wiggle around blowdowns. They’re big trees, so I think they’ll be there a while.
Spikes door to door. Snowshoes got a free ride. |
