 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
20-25 trees removed, all 4-6, with the exception of a handful of 8s. Mainly focused on the upper section, above 3600. There is going to be some bobbing and weaving for folks coming through later, but largely in part a path is cut. Don't worry, I left about another 40 to take care of. Many crowns/branches frozen in ground. Cut with discretion today. There is one widowmaker crown that is best for a pro - a cum-a-long would be the weapon of choice on it, it looks like it wants to fail with some pressure on it, but at 15 degrees and alone, today was not the day (nor am I equipped or trained to deal with this advanced situation)
Some blazing would be helpful down low on this trail, pre wilderness. |

A FINE day was had in the forest. It's been a spell since my last visit. Today was more for a check mark for Every-Day-4K (#347!) and trail maintenance. Did not need Middle for G2. Light cover was had throughout, deeper at elevation. Yes, a mono rail WAS visible on the knife edge ridge. I was laughing and wondered if it was April and not December. Fast footing car to car. Spikes to Wilderness sign, switched to snowshoes, wore snowshoes back to car. Still pretty bony in the drainage and some care was needed as there are bare sections. Mainly brought them for any anticipated ice higher up, and well.. why wait... televate. Ran into six folks, all in spikes. Three carrying shoes which would have made everything way easier but to each their own. A cluster of 5 or six removed from summit, and then cut my way out. All in all a fine day. This brought me to 19 days left for calendar day. It also gridded out the 15th of every month, haha. No evidence of any visitors to Scaur or Fool Killer from the typical launch areas. |
