I took care of all trees currently blocking the trail. There were dozens. More could be done if we get 4 feet of snow, or if it all melts. |

My goodness this trail was in rough shape. I removed dozens of spruce trees blocking the path, there seemed to be one every 50 feet once I hit the snow line. It seemed faster to cut them than step around. Saw a few other solo hikers, and ended up hiking out the last few miles by headlamp / moonlight with a guy I recognized from YouTube. Amazingly he had no spikes, just broken snowshoes. I had my sharp spikes on but wished I brought my dull ones because there is no snow on the bottom half of the trail and it’s mostly bare rock and running water. I just had my stitches out a few days ago so didn’t want to risk a fall again. Snowshoes can stay once you see that it’s solid snow, somewhere near the halfway point. |
