Trails: Dicey’s Mill Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, December 13, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lot is plowed. Outhouse had the door partway open during the last storm so I couldn’t get it fully closed or opened, but it was stocked with TP. The way the door is frozen might make it difficult for a larger person to get in or out.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We crossed on the log using spikes on the way up and snowshoes on the way down. Use poles!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lower portion of Diceys in in great shape. Above the Rollins junction are many blowdowns. We removed what we could, but there are still quite a few that are frozen into the snow or are just too large to handle with a small saw.

Comments
Comments: Bare booted until the water crossing. Spikes on to cross the log and kept them on until part way up above the Rollins split where we donned snowshoes. Snowshoes weren’t strictly necessary, but the televators were welcome and they also came in handy in those places where we had to go off-trail to go around blowdowns. The steep slabs nearing the top were covered with crunchy snow, not ice, which was a welcome surprise. Rollins hadn’t been broken out, but we met another hiker who was going to attempt it. He also went partway down the Passaconaway view spur, but turned back as it hadn’t been broken yet and was full of blowdowns (his words, but I believe him).
