 | Water Crossing Notes: |
All crossings are open and flowing strongly from Wednesday's storm. The lower crossing has a track upstream about 100' we utilized in the morning, but in the light of day we crossed right at the trail. The upper crossing while high was a non issue |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Approximately 12 4-8" blowdowns removed, most fresh from Wednesday's storm. Several more crowns/limbs removed. Head thumper on left summit split removed. What's left is frozen to the ground, maybe a handful. I added cuts to these in a few places that when the ice lets go of its grip, their removal should be extremely easy. |

A FINE day for some before work vert. Spikes are absolutely necessary. We have fast forwarded straight to April like conditions, where every type of trail can be found but not for very long. From doing this trail so much, my estimation is 6" of snowpack has been lost on the summit judging by the snow was flush with the cairn on Monday and Tuesday - and now its very much not. Very boney to about 3k, then the snow picks up. However the stairs are now visible in spots again. I am a huge snowshoe proponent and aside from a very short section at present on the steeps, they would be more of a hinderance than a help. We both commented how warm it felt on the summit - the digital thermometer read 9. We are already at the "motor oil blood" in our veins stage of winter*. Trail is largely snow covered, with some exceptions, but there is some boiler plate ice to be found in spots which likely will only continue to expand. Not enough for anything more than good spikes. |
