Starts out minimal snow. Although on our way down we got a pretty good squall that put at least an inch or 2 of new snow covering some of the open areas. There is lots of running water in the middle of the trail making it interesting to find places to put your feet and stay out of the water. Ledges were better than expected. We bare booted till we started nearer the ledges. We put microspikes on from there. Snowshoes would not have been a good choice today with all the open water and then all the obstacles you had to get around/through... There was some snow on the ledges to use to climb up. In other areas, we hugged the trees for comfort. At about 3 miles in the downed tree maze started. It got worse as you climbed up. You had to go over, under, around, through. If you veered off trail, you would post hole up to your bottom. Some areas were very hard to tell where the actual trail was/went. It is marked with blue marks but sometimes you don't see them. You just had to look around and pay attention. I don't think this poor trail will be an easy one especially if we get more snow. It really gets interesting up there. Have fun! |
