Comments
Comments: There was a solid snow surface so there was no need for snowshoes. There was some ice or frozen slush beneath the snow that I could hear break when stepped upon. A few spots of exposed ice that the microspikes handled easily. Never postholed today. Some minor snow drifts on the summit ledges. The snow boots and gaiters kept the feet dry in the small drift areas. Be sure to remove traction in the fire tower. Limited views due to low clouds (on a clear day there is a great view from the tower). Take care descending from the tower as the steps are steep. Saw no other hikers today.
I expect the trail conditions will deteriorate with the forecasted snow/sleet/freezing rain/rain.
