Snowshoes door to door today. From the trailhead to the split where you go L for North and R for South, the trail is now well established from ~12 snowshoes today. The loop over the two peaks is much less consolidated. The trail down from south was not broken out when I headed up north, so I followed—but did not ever reach—the trail-breakers (thank you whoever you are!). The ascent up North was loose; at a few spots, I had to kick in my steps. The descent down South was less of a hike and more of a controlled snowshoe skiing event.
Spikes could now be used for the early part of the hike. For sure by the time you’re going up North, though, you’ll want snowshoes. It’s pretty loose up on the ridge.
Great day—first true winter-like hike for me this year! |
