Well, went out for a shorter peak as a recent injury is keeping me off the big guys. There was snow when I started but it was quite hard. The snow depths were 0 on some rocks to about a foot of powder on top. I was shocked at how much snow was there. Unfortunately if snowshoes were used, you would have had to throw them away with the about of hidden rocks under the powder. Hiking this was not a delight. I can imagine in good conditions it would be better. I felt like a drunken sailor trying to hike down with my feet and ankles going every which way. I only saw 2 others for the whole day and the slog took me 3 hours which I was not impressed at myself for. I will be back for the east peak via proctor another day. |
