 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
plenty of parking at Cardigan Lodge - not many cars in lot all day. Shem Valley Rd had light snow on it but I used 4WD and was fine. Snow squalls all day made things a bit slippery. |

First splitboard trip of winter. The skin track was a bit old and filled in - breaking trail on top half of Dukes was more difficult. Snow was around a foot deep all the way to ledges. Getting up the ledges on splitboard wasn't too bad. Came down ledges way too far right (on hiking trail) and had to walk over to ski trail - oh well!!!! Snow squalls so vis wasn't great. Of course, no base, so turns needed to be skidded. Kinda deep and not used to leaning back to get board up on plane. Descent required a few portages because it was a bit too difficult to carry speed on the flats. Still, got some good turns in!!! Once I was back at car, decided against more splitboarding because snow was good but not great - decided to switch to snowshoes and use different muscles. So, on snowshoes, went up All Persons Trail which was super pleasant, then headed up the Back 80 Trail to the cellar hole. Lots of bony rocks - too much snow to bareboot, but, almost too little snow to snowshoe. Only had old tracks on Back 80. |
