Comments
Comments: Barebooted to first outlook. No need for spikes. Brought the shoes and was ready to put them on from the get go, but very bare ground (1” of snow at parking lot, maybe 3-4” at 2500’. A few minor drifts (knee depth). Lots of bare rock and just a thin coating of snow and ice. Put spikes on at outlook. Perfect traction for the slab and to get through the scrambles approaching Welch. A few areas on back of Welch that were better off on your b*tt for a min or two but nothing significant. Rest of the hike beyond Dickey was spikes till around 2000’ so barebooted as spikes useless and more of a slip/fall risk at that stage. Leaves and bare slab.
