| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lot was not plowed at 9am, so we parked on the side of the Kanc. As we were about to set off on trail about 25 min later, the plow showed up. So it’s good to go now. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts, Slush |

Snowshoes |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
All 3 crossings were pretty straightforward rock hops. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Two blowdowns in the first .3 miles of trail. The second one (on the way out) was not there on the way in, so it must have fallen while we were up top.
Rumor has it that a certain bearded Brit may have done some trimming on it… |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Our little buddy made a valiant effort, but he turned around below the summit push. Was a little too chilly for him. |

Great Black Friday hike up to Chocorua. Snowshoes door to door, as there was a LOT more snow than we anticipated, and it was very loose.
Unfortunately, a lot of folks without snowshoes, so the track is probably pretty torn up (as they all started after us). Definitely some ankle-biting rocks, as the snow has filled in most of the trail, but not all. Half of us summitted, half didn’t, as the first push to the summit had some serious drifting, and it was really tough to find the trail. Reports from the folks who pushed on is that spikes are way better than snowshoes for the summit cone.
No traffic on Piper, Champney Falls Cutoff, or Middle Sister. |
