| Comments: |
Was able to wear snowshoes for the entire loop, but crampons were in pack ready to go. Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail was well packed to hut. Took Monroe Loop partway, then traversed around to the west to avoid steep ice face. From Lakes, took Tuckerman Crossover to avoid sideslope on Crawford Path, then rejoined Crawford Path above that area. Nasty sideslope just south of Jewell Trail junction on Gulfside. Drifting on Gulfside to Jefferson Loop. Snowshoes worked fine up to Jefferson. Packed trail deviates from marked trail a bit. Jewell Trail is *not* broken out to the Gulfside - there is a bushwhack from near one of the springs (north) to near treeline on Jewell Trail - upper part is well endowed with snow, but lower part needs more snow to avoid damaging vegetation. Above this bushwhack on Jewell Trail proper, there is a nasty sideslope. Below treeline, Jewell Trail well packed. |
