Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were a couple of smaller blowdowns above the tent site - one easy step over across the trail, a second new pine with branches partially obstructing the trail. There was another small blowdown on the ridge below Liberty summit, debranched best I could to make it an easier step over. There may have been one more between Liberty and Flume, but my trail memory is failing me.

Comments
Comments: Lots of tree debris / small and large branches / a few treetops on the trail. I moved the ones I could, if not frozen to the ground.

A beautiful day on these two peaks! Cloudy start, but got a great undercast once on the ridge with sunny, winter blue skies above . Blustery and cold on the summits, but comfortable in the woods. Crunchy ice/snow patches w/ wet / dry leaves down low in the AM. this section was mostly melted and bare trail on the return in the afternoon. Some snow starting around 1900' with consistent snow on trail and in woods around 2300'. Varied from about 1-2" down lower, to 3-4" near the tent site, and up to 4-8" on the ridge. Some drifting along the ridge in the usual spots below the summits, but short lived. Still too bony for snowshoes with exposed rocks or rocks lurking just below the surface waiting to catch you. Snowshoes would be very awkward right now. Snow up to Liberty was packed down. Between Liberty and Flume, there seemed to be only one set of tracks ahead of me so the snow was still soft and fluffy there. I put rock spikes on at the Ridge/LS junction, kept them on for the out and back across both summits and back down to the main water crossing on return. The woods were quiet, saw only four other people out today. Of course all this may / will probably change with the incoming weather this week.
