Comments
Comments: thin snow over hard pack and ice along old rail grade and lower north twin trail. depth of new powder increased with elevation with an average of around 6 inches up high with deeper drifted areas over a solid base. the nice powder continued over south twin and down to the hut.

to galehead there was less new snow with a good track beneath. snow gradually thinned out heading down over garfield ridge and gale river trails until becoming mostly ice with a trace of powder in the last mile or so. road and beaver brook ski trail much of the same. real thin at times on the ski trail. i wore snowshoes from the start until the lower 3/4 mile of gale river trail where i switched to microspikes. others wore spikes to start and switched to snowshoes up high. snowshoes are the best choice at elevation, but the trail is too rough and icy down low to wear them comfortably.

great day. fantastic powder snow up high made for perfect snowshoeing. the trip down from south twin to the hut was as good as it gets. quite cold on the summits, but not as windy as i would have thought given the forecast. thanks to mark, val and tim for a great hike as well as to the large group we ended up spending much of the day with (too many to name here and i know if would forget someone).
sorry not to have these conditions posted earlier, but didn't get on the computer last night.
