Arrived in the parking lot just before 8am in high winds and white out conditions. Gave me pause. Should I really hike the ridge today? Oh well... I'm off.
The woods were better, out of the wind. Just a light dusting of snow on a hardpacked trail. I started in snowshoes but the trails were a bit narrow as they seem to have been packed by booters. I switched to crampons at the treeline. Crampons were a definate necessity today for the boiler plate and ice above treeline. The ridge was very windy. Face mask and googles required to keep from freezing.
I welcomed the treeline heading down Falling Waters to ge a break from the wind. No views today for me. In the fog and clouds all morning. It finally started to clear on my way down Falling Waters. Switched to Microspikes on Falling Waters. |
