Conditions: Livermore Rd. was groomed to bridge for skiers. From the bridge up to the jct. of the Scaur Ridge Tr., it was a bumpy ride. Hard packed crusty snow with frozen boot prints.
Scaur ridge trail was a little better, somewhat smoother. About 3/4 of the way up, three of us switched from hillsounds to snowshoes, especially for the televators, while one stayed with microspikes. We left the snowshoes on for the rest of the day. North cone had very little exposed ice and had good purchase for snowshoes. A few duck-unders along the way. The ridge between the peaks was well packed with loose granular. We tried the best we could to smooth out the track from all the bare-booters.
Nice talking with Fred and Lynn today, and seeing Tim M. on the trail. Great day out with Hiker Ed, Patty D., and Lou M. Warm sun and very little wind today. |
