| Dog-Related Notes: |
Marlie did very well today. The packed trail kept her out of the deep snow. She had to use caution on the icy slopes heading up Lafayette. A slip could have sent her for a ride. I was impressed to see her shielding herself from the wind behind the cairns as she waited for me. We saw one other dog on FW trail. Probably not a good idea to bring an inexpierienced dog on this loop right now. |

| Comments: |
Trails were fast and in excellent shape. Below treeline it was a well packed track. Microspikes worked well although some may prefer crampons in a few spots along agony alley.
Above treeline there was lots of ice. microspikes were almost overmatched. Always remember to keep your feet flat. The worst was near the spring below Lafayette's summit. I stayed close to the large rock outcropping and walked along the drifts. A slip here could send you for a slide. Very windy on the ridge (20-35mph). Worse between the peaks but almost calm on the west side.
I did not notice any tracks heading down Greenleaf Tr from the hut, north on Garfield Ridge Tr, or south from Little Haystack on Franconia Ridge Tr.
